The most common errors in MSS Software programs are caused by incorrect setup or configuration problems. Double checking the Installation Errors, System Setup, Pervasive Software Setup, and PFW/PFD Compatibility issues outlined in the following document can solve most errors. PFW/PFD and MSS Software
Compatibility You must be running the version of MSS Software that is required for your PFW/PFD version. Also, you must run compatible versions of MSS Software Programs. Running an incompatible version can cause PFW/PFD file corruption errors and problems in the MSS Access database files.
PFW Version 4.6 through 4.8a and PFD 4.6 MSS Software version 4.20
Unsupported Out of Date Programs MSS Software version 4.10 or earlier
Error Messages During Or Directly After Installing The Software... Did you run the Workstation Setup option on each
new machine? The program should be installed on the server as a full-install or stand-alone install, and then the Workstation Setup option needs to be run on each workstation that is going to be running the MSS Program. Remember, when running the Workstation Setup Option the installation directory path needs to be set to the original server destination. Did you set the installation path correctly? The install prompts you for an installation path. If you are upgrading then you need to install to the previously selected path. If you are running the workstation setup option, then you need to select the original server destination path. Are you logged into the system with admistrator
rights? To install our programs you must have full rights on the workstation and server. Did you uninstall the previous version? You should always uninstall a previous version before installing an upgrade. All of your data is stored in Access databases or Btrieve tables and will not be uninstalled with the software. Have you read the upgrade installation
instructions? Each program manual includes a section that details any specific upgrade or update procedure. If you do not follow all of the correct update procedures you may receive various error messages or may not receive all program updates or bug fixes. Error Messages When Trying To Open Program Screens... Did you setup and select a processing company? The basic system setup requires you to setup a processing company in the Company Setup Screen and then select a Company in the "Change Company Screen". This process is workstation specific and needs to be completed on each workstation that is running the MSS Application. The most common problem with the System Setup is incorrectly setting the "Path to the DDF files" in the Company Setup Screen. Remember that this path needs to be set to our program DDFs, therefore the path needs to be set to the MSS Application Directory. Are you receiving a "(error message) Status =
"? Example: Error opening P:/Platinum/MSS/INLOC Status = 20. All error messages ending with "Status =" is related to your Btrieve Installation and/or configuration. Double check that the Pervasive Software Database Engine is installed correctly on each workstation. Every workstation should be running the same and correct version and it must be configured properly. You can find information on Btrieve and other Pervasive products at http://www.pervasive.com. Pervasive's web site includes a support section that details all error status codes and related fixes. Our enhancement programs will work in conjunction with multiple versions of Pervasive's database engines. The selection, setup, and support of Btrieve database products are the responsibility of the user. We use standard Btrieve calls to access the PFW/PFD Btrieve files; therefore, if Btrieve is properly installed, it should work for both PFW/PFD and our enhancements. It is very important that the same version of Btrieve is being used on all workstations accessing PFW/PFD and/or our programs. Maynard Software Solutions does not support your Btrieve configuration beyond offering the following information. Prior to installing any software created and published by Maynard Software, you must first install PFW and ensure that it is functioning properly. For PFW to function properly Btrieve must be installed and setup properly on each workstation. Our programs will work in conjunction with the PFW Btrieve install. However, this program may be run from a workstation that is not setup to run PFW. In this instance, the PFW Btrieve version must be installed and setup properly on the workstation before our program will function. Using Btrieve Server Edition When using Btrieve Server Edition with PFD you must setup the same version of Btrieve Server Edition to run in a Windows environment. The components required to run the Btrieve Server Edition in a Windows environment are sent on the DOS Server Edition installation diskettes, but are probably not installed. Contact your Pervasive dealer, PFW/PFD consultant, or your in-house MIS technician to install and configure the Btrieve Server Edition on each PC that will be running our software. It is very important that the same version of Btrieve Server Edition is being used on all workstations accessing PFW and/or our programs. If you use the wrong version, configure the software incorrectly, or use a local version of Btrieve, you will receive multiple error messages and corrupt your PFW/PFD, MRP/MPS, and BOMP data files. Using Btrieve Local Edition If you are running PFD and using the local version of Btrieve, then you must install the Btrieve Version that is issued by Maynard Software Solutions, Inc. This version is sent on our installation CD or you may call (800) 672-9462 x101 to have a copy emailed or sent to you. Installation instructions are provided with the software. This software is provided to you at no cost. Maynard Software makes no warranties regarding Btrieve software other than we have a license to distribute it to companies that purchase our products.
